Apple iPhone 8 Release Date 2017 Leaks – Reports Claimed iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus Will Likely Be Released
A new report claims that Apple's 3D Touch components on the OLED-equipped iPhone 8 are 150 percent more expensive than its LCD counterpart. The quote is allegedly $18-22 United States dollars, 150% higher than the cost of manufacturing the 3D Touch solution for current generation devices, reports the Economic Daily Newsvia DigiTimes.
For 3D Touch solution used in existing iPhone series, TPK and fellow maker General Interface Solution (GIS) quote US$7-9 per smartphone.
It's been previously reported that Apple is planning to embed its Touch ID sensor beneath the iPhone 8's OLED display. This may also require additional care and processing, as pointed out by 9To5Mac. With that being said, the iPhone 8 will likely propel the largest and most significant upgrade cycle the technology company has seen yet.
Seeing as how the iPhone form factor design has more or less remained unchanged since the 2014 release of the iPhone 6, the current iPhone owners have been rooting for something new and different for years now. To this point, Goldman Sachs analyst Simona Jankowski provided the following component cost breakdown for the iPhone 8 last week.
The Apple's iconic flagship smartphone will take things to the next stage once the impending iPhone 8 is officially released later this year. After all, the upcoming phone is rumored to become Apple's "premium" device.
The drastic price increase is said to be the result of a more involved manufacturing process on account of the OLED display being more fragile than the LCD displays Apple now uses.
The iPhone 8 is believed to have an edge-to-edge OLED display that completely removes the top and bottom bezels up front.
According to Morgan Stanley (via Seeking Alpha), Apple's supply chain expect the production of the new iPhone to start on schedule because the key components are going to be delivered on time.
