But despite West Indies playing themselves into a reasonable position at stumps, they were still 158 behind Pakistan's first-innings score, far from safety with two days left in the deciding test of the series, which is tied at 1-1.
Devendra Bishoo dismissed Pakistan stalwarts Younis Khan and captain Misbah ul Haq in their farewell global innings to leave the tourists struggling at 72 for five in their second innings at tea on the fourth day of the third and final Test against the West Indies in Dominica on Saturday.
Despite slumping to a three-match Test series defeat against Pakistan, West Indies all-rounder Roston Chase has praised his team's overall efforts and described his fighting century on the final day as the "toughest" of his career. Yasir Shah was the wrecker-in-chief as he took eight wickets in the match and five in the second innings in a gripping final day at Windsor Park, Dominica and Pak scripted a 101-run win over their Carribean counterparts.
He was left unbeaten on 101, his third Test century, when Yasir Shah bowled Shannon Gabriel with the last ball of the penultimate over of the Test.
Imran Khan also congratulated to Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan over their great achievements for Pakistan, and for retiring with a grace & dignity. "She just convinced me and the fans that I have to come", Misbah said. What a finish, I couldn't have asked more than that.
The conribution of Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq is of great significance as the two batting stalwarts held the fort for their country's cricket when the nation was rocked by a spate of match fixing scandals and unending political turmoil at the turn of the new millenium.
"I am really happy for this team, all the guys here, the way they gave me and Younis send-offs", he added. There were frustrations. No-balls, wickets, couple of chances here and there, but you enjoy wins like this much more than straightforward wins. I haven't decided specifically what yet, but, even if it is with my department (SNGPL), who have young players, I'll see what I can do. It was a very fine journey with him in the middle, sharing a lot of partnerships, and I loved every moment of that.
Taking to his twitter account, former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif said that though Chase displayed a solid performance, Misbah and Younis managed to get a flawless send-off. "Giving respect to everyone has helped me in my captaincy and I got respect in return", he said. "In the history books, both our names will be there". "I thought that really was the key, seeing that he was there all series, so once I got through him it was a little easier for me to play the other bowlers".
