The incident took place when a group of four cattle traders were on their way to Rajnagar in Seraikela-Kharsawan district to buy cattle. They also set their vehicle on fire.

The seven people lynched on Thursday included four Muslims and three Hindus from neighbouring non-tribal villages and urban areas.

Suspecting them to be child kidnappers, the villagers attacked them and also vandalised their vehicle.

Angry villagers pelted stones, clashed with police and also torched two police vehicles.
