GOP lawmaker says Trump allegations, if true, are grounds for impeachment
19 May 2017, 04:57 | Todd Saunders
A small but growing number of Republican US lawmakers called on Wednesday for an independent probe of possible collusion between President Donald Trump's 2016 campaign and Russian Federation, spurred by a memo from the fired FBI chief that Trump had sought to impede the agency's investigation.
Meantime, leaders of the Senate Intelligence Committee are asking the FBI to turn over memos prepared by Comey regarding communications he had with the White House or Justice Department about the FBI's Russian Federation investigations, Politico reported.
While investors would cheer a tax cut, the White House and Republicans have their sights set higher.
But most Republicans have said the current Federal Bureau of Investigation probe and investigations in the Republican-led Congress are sufficient.
"There's plenty of oversight going on", Ryan told a news conference.
"I've got my subpoena pen ready if you're thinking about not giving them to us". Ryan also insisted the Trump controversies were not paralyzing Republican legislative efforts in Congress.
The tumult in Washington deepened on Tuesday over allegations Trump had sought to end the FBI's investigation into ties between Trump's first national security adviser, Michael Flynn, and Russian Federation.

Biden isn't ruling out 2020 run for president
Joe Biden has achieved what for most politicians forever remains the land of legend: a high rate of bipartisan favorability. Biden, who was seen as a strong potential opponent to Trump in 2016, said of a possible 2020 run: "Could I? Yes".
"I don't know if it's an actual fact yet, (the) meeting between Comey and Trump, and what was said and not said, and what did Comey write down on a piece of paper at the time", he said. Mark Warner, as well as asking Comey to testify.
The Kremlin's expectation that Trump and Putin would meet soon after Trump took office have withered amid congressional and FBI investigations of the Trump campaign's ties to Russian Federation.
"If the allegations are true, yes", the Michigan Republican said when asked if the allegations are grounds for impeachment. The request also covers any other documents related to communications between Trump and Comey.
Several legal analysts have argued that any such request could be considered obstruction of justice, an impeachable offense. "Until he has access to them, the Congressman will not be commenting further".
"While the president has repeatedly expressed his view that General Flynn is a decent man who served and protected our country, the president has never asked Mr. Comey or anyone else to end any investigation, including any investigation involving General Flynn", the statement said. "The president has the utmost respect for our law enforcement agencies, and all investigations". Comey then purportedly wrote down the conversation in a memo.
Trump came under strong fire following revelations that he revealed intelligence secrets, which were obtained from an ally, when he met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Russian Ambassador Sergei Kislyak at the White House last week.
