Derek Jeter throws out Yankees first pitch, tosses ball to Spike Lee
19 May 2017, 11:22 | Andy Ferguson
He joined ESPN in 2007 after nine years at the New York Post.
Derek Jeter has taken his place among Yankee legends.
He says "there isn't a person or player I would trade places with that's playing now or ever".
Retired New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter and his wife Hannah Jeter stand beside his Monument Psrtk plaque during an on-field, pregame ceremony retiring Jeter's number 2 at Yankee Stadium in New York, Sunday, May 14, 2017.
He is the team's career leader in hits, games played, at-bats, doubles and stolen bases, and retired as the team's longest run captain.
A host of former team mates and coaches attended the ceremony before Sunday's game against the Houston Astros, including Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettitte, Jorge Posada, Hideki Matsui, and his former manager Joe Torre. They wore pink-billed caps in honor of Mother's Day.
Yankees announcers Michael Kay and John Sterling emceed the festivities.
Derek Jeter may be finished with one No. 2, but he's about to see a lot more of it - in a very different context - when his first child arrives.

Announcers Michel Kay and John Sterling emceed the festivities, introducing his whole family with the crowd chanting a familiar roll call of 'De-reck Je-Ter!'
Memorabilia doesn't get much better than the ceremonial first pitch ball throw by Jeter on the night his number was retired.
Jeter retired after the 2014 season.
The Astros scored six times while Jeter was giving his press conference about the ceremony.
Some of Jeter's former teammates weren't in attendance for the ceremony, most notably Alex Rodriguez. Rodriguez, who was celebrating Mother's Day in Miami with his family, tweeted a message to Jeter. "He was kind of representative of an entire generation of great players". And there was Bernie Williams and a whole cast of others that played a role with the Derek Jeter lovefest in NY.
Of course, you can't honor a legendary baseball player without giving him a bunch of expensive gifts. "The house Jeter built", said another, echoing the nickname for the old Yankee Stadium as "The House that Ruth built". Rodriguez did, however, tweet his congratulations to Jeter, saying "Thank you for the pleasure of playing alongside you for so many years". "Any time I'm unprepared, it makes me uncomfortable".
Fans roared in delight at the procession of Yankee favorites that helped salute Jeter as the Astros players lined the railing in front of the visitors' dugout to take in the tribute.
