State officials activated the response Tuesday night when a tornado touched down in parts of Barron County.

The NWS says that almost 40 percent of all tornado deaths have historically occurred in mobile homes.

Numerous homes at the Prairie Lakes Estates trailer park were destroyed.

"It was just chaos".

The center of the park was a mass of debris and furniture and personal belongings, with not a single trailer left standing.

"We'll take any walk-up volunteers willing to help", Porter said. "When I got back and got back to my trailer, my neighbors, some people were helping the lady out of the trailer and her husband was buried inside", recalls Dale Daily. The spotter said in the report, "trailer homes were hit and walls were on top of people". Gusts of 85mph (135kph) were recorded at the weather service's office in Valley, west of Omaha.

No damage was reported with a rain-wrapped tornado just northwest of Bucklin in Ford County, Kansas, officials said, but tornadoes destroyed several homes between Pawnee Rock and Hoisington in central Kansas.

Tuesday's storms were part of two supercells that formed in the Texas Panhandle before moving to the north and east.

According to the National Weather Service, at least 3 tornadoes have been confirmed.
