The man known as the Facebook killer, Steve Stephens, died Tuesday morning of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Erie County, Penn.

He says the attendant recognized Stephens, who was wanted in Sunday's slaying of a retired OH man, and called 911.

Stephens had ordered a 20-piece McNuggets and a side of fries.

A McDonald's employee recognized him and told Stephens the fries were not ready in order to stall for time as another employee called 911. Authorities say Stephens shot and killed himself during the pursuit.

One of the pursuing troopers picked his spot - in front of an abandoned school - and hit Stephens' bumper to get him to stop.

In other videos posted to his Facebook account, Stephens claimed he murdered 15 other people and would kill again.

Stephens was at the center of a nationwide manhunt after police say he killed 74-year-old Robert Godwin, Sr. on Easter Sunday at 695 East 93rd Street.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg offered his condolences to the family of the man who was recently murdered in a video that was posted on the social network, and promised the company will do more to remove violent material from the site. She said the chase slowed suddenly from 50 miles per hour to about 20 miles per hour when the road narrowed from four lanes to two.

Citizens and police in Erie had been on high alert after a ping from Stephens' cell phone was detected there Sunday.

Godwin will be laid to rest Saturday, almost a week after he his last meal with his children.

According to Tye, Stephens pulled away from the drive-thru when he spotted police pulling into the McDonald's parking lot.

"We have a full road map of products to help build groups and community. help build a more informed society. help keep our communities safe", he said.

Gail Wheeler, of Erie, said she was stopped at a light at the McDonald's when Stephens came "whipping out" of the parking lot, almost hitting her. The company has since announced it is launching a review for reporting harmful content. Frederick tells Cleveland.com he recalls Stephens as nice and jovial, not negative.

Detectives spoke with the suspect on Sunday by cellphone and tried to persuade him to surrender, police said.
