Patriots Compare Comeback Super Bowl Win to Trump's Presidential Race

21 April 2017, 02:43 | Andy Ferguson

A couple of days after Patriot's Day in Massachusetts, President Donald Trump welcomed several members of the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots to the White House.

Before the Super Bowl, Trump was constantly singing Tom's praises, so it's definitely telling that he wouldn't mention him during an event honoring the team.

Trump has come under criticism from environmental activists who say his comments dismissing climate change as a "hoax" are misguided.

"The Patriots are an incredible organization and this Super Bowl victory was a complete team effort". The affable Gronkowski opened a door behind White House press secretary Sean Spicer on Wednesday afternoon.

"I think I got this".

Brady, the Patriot's biggest star, skipped both the 2015 visit and this year's event, citing family matters both times.

Walker said he also planned to talk privately with Trump about the issue during his stop in Wisconsin on Tuesday. That leaves plenty of time for Trump to adopt MacNaughton's "glass is half full" outlook on Canada-U.S. trade.

Other members of the Patriots had made it clear they will skip Wednesday's visit over disagreements with President Trump. Defensive back Devin McCourty told Time in February he would stay away, explaining the "basic reason for me is I don't feel accepted in the White House".

"Here's what gripes me ― the scrutiny with which the visit to the White House has been handled by the press", James said.

Alan Branch initially told reporters he would be staying to spend time with his family, but revealed to the Boston Globehe chose to stay because of sexist remarks made in the past by the president. "I can't see myself going and then hanging out with my kids and pretending everything was all right".

The 27-year-old Hernandez was serving a life sentence for the 2013 shooting death of a friend.
