Manchester United mourns fans electrocuted in Nigeria while watching match

Manchester United has responded by tweeting its condolences to the victims and their families.

"I heard a deafening bang". Come to think of it, I have DStv at home but I enjoy watching matches at viewing centers.

Police confirmed at least seven were killed but officials fear the toll could be far higher after the tragedy in Nigeria, with ten more said to be critically injured.

"Eleven other fans who were injured were rushed to the hospital, with one in a critical condition", she said.

Police said the incident was the result of an issue with an electrical transformer at the viewing centre in which the fans had gathered.

The house is said to have been constructed mostly with corrugated zinc.

Francisco Lindor: Report: Lindor turned down $100M extension
Furthermore, Hoynes says that there are no active extension talks with Lindor or any other player at this time. Dave Meter, Lindor's agent, would not comment when asked about the amount of the extension offer.

The incident occurred at a viewing centre in the city of Calabar.

Gov. Ben Ayade said: "The incident marks a dark chapter in the life of the state where the precious lives of football lovers have been lost".

It is common practice in Nigeria for fans to watch football matches at viewing centres for a fee, as most either can not afford the high cable television subscription fees or prefer to watch with other fans.

President Muhammadu Buhari has already commiserated with the victims of the incident and commended the Cross River government for their quick reaction to the incident.

As the club and the UK High Commission in Nigeria offered their condolences today, local authorities have described the disaster as a horrifying tragedy.
