"He actually got him to look not so bad for using chemical weapons on his own people because the discussion became, Sean Spicer, how could you not know that Hitler marched his own people - Jews, gypsies, homosexuals. he marched them into concentration camps and turned on what is in fact chemical gas", Stern said.

In Israel, the Yad Vashem memorial center urged Mr Spicer to visit its website and expressed "deep concern regarding the inaccurate and insensitive use of terms related to the Holocaust" by the press secretary. "It was a mistake to do that".

Mr Spicer said during a White House briefing on Tuesday that Adolf Hitler "didn't even sink to using chemical weapons".

He later issued an official statement, saying that he was not "trying to lessen the horrendous nature of the Holocaust". "Any attack on innocent people is reprehensible and inexcusable".

Democrats and Jewish organisations condemned Mr Spicer's comments.

What Kills Earthlings Most When Asteroid Strikes? This Model Has Answer!
Rumpf said the findings could help Earthlings plan for future asteroid strikes. "But the consequences can be unimaginable". Cratering and airborne debris were similarly less concerning, both garnering fewer than 1 percent of deaths.

"The problem with Sean Spicer and this administration is, they don't have the DNA of compassion and they don't have the DNA of the knowledge of history and I come from a people who lost 6,000 people a day gassed in Auschwitz - any sixth-grader knows what Sean Spicer should know", he added.

Mr Spicer's comments came on the first day of Passover and a day after the White House held a Seder dinner marking the emancipation of the Jewish people, a tradition started during the Obama administration.

Though Spicer says he let president down, he told Van Susteren that he had not spoken to President Trump about the incident, though it was reported that he had apologized to major Republican donor Sheldon Adelson.

Despite the apologies, Mr Spicer's remarks provoked outrage around the globe from those who claimed he showed insensitivity to victims of the Holocaust.

Spicer has since apologized for forgetting or ignoring that Hitler used poison gas to kill Jews and other minorities during World War Two. Earlier in the year, the White House generated criticism by issuing a statement on global Holocaust Remembrance Day that did not mention Jews.
