Jared Kushner, the top White House adviser and son-in-law of President Trump, has drawn criticism for being a political neophyte whose experience in real estate and publishing might not have prepared him to tackle his vast new portfolio.

Earlier this month, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) said Kushner was increasingly being targeted by an online anti-Semitic campaign in light of reports that he was feuding with White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon in the wake of the American missile strike on a Syrian airfield.

Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger is applauding Jared Kushner's work in the early days of his father-in-law's presidency, but warning that he has taken a "daunting role flying close to the sun".

So, when Time Magazine chose to include Kushner on the 2017 Time 100 list of influential people, it was likely to prove hard to put into words why he belongs on such a list - a task that fell to former Secretary of State and National Security Adviser Henry Kissinger.

Kushner, on the other hand, was born in 1981 - nine years after Kissinger orchestrated Nixon's famous diplomatic trip to China. For the second time, U.S. President Donald Trump made the list. In terms of qualification, Kissinger notes that Kushner "is a graduate of Harvard and NYU, he has a broad education; as a businessman, a knowledge of administration".

His privileged journey aside, Kushner's spot on the list is clearly warranted considering the enormous influence he has over White House policy. "But we will always be in the small fraternity of those who answered a president's call to serve as White House chief of staff".

Wendi Murdoch, producer and former wife of Rupert Murdoch, wrote about her friendship with Ivanka.

Speaker Paul Ryan wrote an essay on Trump for the magazine, praising the president for shaking up the establishment.
