Investigation launched into Braamfontein office park fire

"What we know is that the Braampark is on fire".

Police have opened a case of arson and will be investigating what led to Tuesday afternoon's fire at the Braamfontein office park in Johannesburg.

A fire engine at the entrance to the office park, with the top floor of the building at the back.

"We had to get water from the street".

There were about a thousand workers in the building when the fire broke out.

Initial images only revealed smoke emanating from the building's roof.

"The first fire engine arrived, but there was no water in fire hydrants around the building, so we sourced water from around the block", he said.

Zanele Ngumbela, 28, said she'd been having lunch nearby when she saw what at first looked like dust on the roof.

At this stage it is not known what the cause of the fire was, however, fire fighters are battling the blaze.
