The news comes as his death has been ruled a suicide, officials announced in a release today that also says the convicted killer and ex-Patriot jammed cardboard in the door of his cell before taking his own life.

"It is quite possible that for Aaron Hernandez to be on the news on the same day that the Patriots are in the news, that's symbolic", said Ruskin.

Days before his death in prison, Aaron Hernandez was acquitted in the murders of Safiro Furtado and Daniel de Abreu in Boston's South End in 2012.

Guards found Hernandez shortly after 3 a.m. Wednesday, Correction Department spokesman Christopher Fallon said. Abatement ab initio means "from the beginning", Healy said, and it means that upon a person's death if they have not exhausted their legal appeals, their case reverts to its status at the beginning - it's as if the trial and conviction never happened. Otherwise, he would have been transferred to a mental health unit, Fallon said. Additionally, the NFL cut Hernandez off from receiving a pension from the league.

Also calling for an investigation into Hernandez's death is State Sen. In May 2015, Hernandez agreed to be a lookout for an inmate who fought another inmate at the prison where he died. As the jury deliberated, cameras spied Hernandez blowing kisses to the young daughter he fathered with fiancee Shayanna Jenkins. Jamie Eldridge, whose district includes Shirley, home of the prison where Hernandez was incarcerated. But for what it's worth, Lloyd's family still has a civil suit against Hernandez pending, so any money the Hernandez estate potentially receives might not stay with the estate for very long.

Friends also were grieving in CT, where Hernandez was raised. "From everyone I had talked to who was close to him, they said he remained positive when he was in prison", Steele said. "I don't believe that he would have killed himself".
