Ex-NFL star Hernandez found dead in prison cell

20 April 2017, 05:41 | Todd Saunders

On the day he signed his $40 million contract, a gleeful, proud Hernandez said he was "set for life, a good life".

Hernandez's death came hours before his former teammates visited the White House to celebrate their historic Super Bowl victory.

College football star at 17.

The former New England Patriots player was found hanged in his prison cell Wednesday.

Dead in apparent suicide at 27.

Stay tuned for more details as this story is developing.

Hernandez leaves behind his fiancee, Shayanna Jenkins, and their 4-year-old daughter, Avielle. Those close to him told the Boston Globe in 2013 that Hernandez was racked by grief when his father died in 2006 from complications after a routine hernia surgery. The figures don't detail the failed drug tests in college, or all the coaches who were anxious about his "off the field activities", but turned their heads because Hernandez was such a football talent.

The decision came nearly exactly two years after the former New England Patriots tight end was sentenced to life in prison without parole for murdering Odin Lloyd, a semi-pro football player in June 2013.

Democrat Just Misses Stunning Victory in Georgia House Race
Trump's approval rating has not topped 50 percent since he took office on January 20, according to Reuters/Ipsos polling. For Democrats, Ossoff's near win encourages the opposition movement that has flourished since Trump's election.

Once one of the best paid players in the NFL, Hernandez was found unconscious in his cell at around 3am local time on Wednesday.

Hernandez was convicted of first-degree murder in the 2013 death of Odin Lloyd. But doing so misses the point. This is a service for people who may be thinking about suicide, or those who are concerned about family or friends.

His friend says he'll remember Hernandez as a happy, goofy man who was always trying to make people laugh.

"You could piggyback off that criminal conviction to get to the place where you're only litigating damages", Cavallaro said.

Those close to Aaron Hernandez are beyond surprised by the news that he took his own life. Currently, investigators are said to be looking at the possibility Hernandez smoked synthetic marijuana before taking his own life. If we don't turn our heads.

Monroe, a graphic designer, said Hernandez's temperament stayed even-keeled throughout the two-month trial, where prosecutors fingered him as the triggerman who killed the Cape Verdean men following a nightclub dispute.

Father John Geoghan, a Catholic priest convicted on child molestation charges and known as a key figure in the clergy sex abuse scandal that mired the Boston Archdiocese also had his convictions vacated after he was beaten to death in his cell in 2003 at the same MA maximum-security prison where Hernandez died Wednesday.

Hernandez was convicted of killing Lloyd in 2015, but the conviction could be thrown out following his death due to an obscure legal doctrine in MA law known as "abatement ab initio".
