Bill O'Reilly loses job at Fox News following sexual harassment allegations
20 April 2017, 08:07 | Todd Saunders
Up to four million viewers watched "The O'Reilly Factor" each evening, making it the most-watched cable TV program in 2016 and generating $446 million in ad revenues for Fox between 2014 and a year ago, according to a study carried out by Kantar Media.
Top-rated "O'Reilly Factor" lost about 90 advertisers after the New York Times reported earlier this month that five women were paid $13 million to settle sexual harassment suits involving O'Reilly.
There was no immediate response from Bill O'Reilly's bosses Wednesday to escalating reports that the Fox News Channel personality will lose his job following accusations he had harassed women.
A fairly new addition to the evening lineup, Tucker Carlson will slide into the 8 p.m. time slot in place of O'Reilly. It had previously aired at 9 p.m. Bill O'Reilly has lost his job at Fox News Channel following reports that five women had been paid m.
Substitute host Dana Perino - who had been one of O'Reilly's fill-ins during the vacation he has been on and was supposed to return from - began the show by saying, "Before we get to the other big stories of the day, we want to address a situation many of you may already be aware of". Carlson's show had been moved earlier this year to replace "The Kelly File" with Megyn Kelly, another Fox News star who left for NBC in January.
In the wake of the Times report, two more women have come forward to accuse O'Reilly of harassment, one anonymously.
Beck noted that with Roger Ailes gone from the company - Ailes quit last July amid sexual harassment allegations of his own - Rupert Murdoch wouldn't be able to stop his sons, Lachlan and James, from gutting the channel.
Israel Says Assad Has Tons of Chemical Weapons Left
The entire stockpile was said to have been dismantled and shipped out under global supervision in 2014 and destroyed. Iran and Hezbollah, both bitter enemies of Israel, along with Russian Federation have sent forces to support Assad.
It was a humiliating blow to one of the biggest U.S. media names, a veteran broadcaster at Fox News for two decades who counted President Donald Trump among his personal supporters and whose ratings soared in defiance of his alleged abusive behavior towards women. He still went ahead and signed a new contract with Fox, however.
It is not known exactly how Fox News would handle O'Reilly's exit or whether he would be allowed to say goodbye to viewers on the air, according to the NY magazine report.
O'Reilly said in an April 1 statement that he had been unfairly targeted because of his public prominence. "Cable news is someone standing on a mountain top shouting, and Bill O'Reilly was on the highest peak so he echoed across the landscape". Bustle has reached out to Fox News for comment. "For years, Fox News executives, like Bill Shine, have provided cover for systematic sexual harassment and abuse of Fox New's employees".
Wednesday on The Lead with Jake Tapper, Ana Navarro weighed in on the news that has rocked the media world - Bill O'Reilly's departure from Fox News.
"You have also been loyal, and we can't tell you how much that means to everyone on 'The Factor'". She quit the job - and the business - due to her treatment by O'Reilly, he said. These included Mitsubishi Motors, which spent about $2.1 million for ads on O'Reilly's show in 2016, making it the show's fifth-largest advertiser.
O'Reilly also could resurface as a commentator on traditional television, such as for the conservative Sinclair Broadcasting Group, a Maryland TV station chain that has shown an appetite for owning TV content and this month hired Trump's former spokesman, Boris Epshteyn, to be its chief political analyst.
O'Reilly and co-author Martin Dugard are due to release another book in the "Killing" series in September, and a spokeswoman for publisher Henry Holt and Co. said that plans had not changed.
