Cops identify victims of alleged Fresno gunman's shooting spree
A man who authorities said fatally shot three men, apparently chosen at random, had posted on social media a dislike for white people and government officials, Fresno, California, police Chief Jerry Dyer said. Williams was also white.
He claimed insanity after being charged with possessing cocaine with intent to distribute in 2005, and his attorney requested a psychiatric examination, saying Muhammad "appeared eccentric with some weird beliefs".
Police are pleading for the man to turn the weapon in.
Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said in a press conference Wednesday that suspect Kori Ali Muhammad - born Kori McDonald - was inspired to carry out the attack after learning on local news that he was the suspect of another murder at a local motel. He said all the victims were white males and there was every reason to believe Muhammad had acted alone.
Fresno has used the gunfire detection system called ShotSpotter for about two years.
Dyer says Muhammad claims he did so out of respect for the officer and to show the courage of conviction for his alleged crimes and the reasoning behind them.
After the original shooting, Muhammad ran behind the motel and climbed onto the roof of a nearby 7-Eleven, where he hid through Thursday night.
After emerging from the ravine Sunday, he cut his braided hair and burned it, altering his appearance from the "wanted" photos police would release while searching for him in the death of the security guard.
A spokeswoman for the Fresno County District Attorney's Office said Muhammad would be charged in connection with the fatal gun spree after police investigators submit final reports in the case.

Police later found a backpack with documents showing Muhammad's name, four revolver speed loaders and.357 caliber bullets. Martin faces charges of being an accessory after the fact to murder. It was not immediately known if she has an attorney.
The suspect in this week's racially motivated shooting rampage in Fresno entered a courtroom early Friday shouting that natural disasters striking America will increase. A day after police say Muhammad went on a shooting rampage in his city, Dyer says the suspect walked him through each murder - without showing a hint of remorse. He also fired at two women inside of a vehicle and at a group of men at a bus stop.
"Just the thoughtful prayers and everything mean the world to us", said Lisa Gassett the mother of Mark's children.
Muhammad on Tuesday first walked up to a utility truck and shot a Pacific Gas & Electric Co. employee sitting in the passenger seat.
Jackson's roommate said they were waiting for a bus home after going to the bank and then stopping to use the bathroom at Catholic Charities. "He said he did not like white men and said white people were responsible for keeping black people down".
Kori Ali Muhammad, 39, then shouted twice during a minute-long hearing: "Let black people go in reparations".
"Kori Muhammad is a very calloused individual".
Public records list Muhammad as Cory Taylor and other aliases with addresses in Fresno and Sacramento.
A black man accused of shooting three people to death in Fresno, California, wanted to kill as many white men as possible because he expected to be arrested for another shooting, police said on Wednesday, calling the incident a hate crime.
