The Russian Army will train the Syrian Kurdish defence forces in Afrin, the YPG announced on Monday.

"This is the first agreement of its kind, although we have had previous cooperation (with the Russians) in Aleppo city", he says. "We have direct relations with Russian Federation", the YPG said.

A British man who travelled to Syria to fight against the Islamic State terror group said he "wouldn't have forgiven himself" if he had not gone.

Though Turkey continues to reiterate its displeasure, it is unclear there is much they can do about Kurdish expansion in Syria, as embedded United States troops are making a direct Turkish attack likely much too unsafe to contemplate.

Turkey rejects any role by the Kurdish YPG forces in northern Syria, and considers the YPG as an affiliation of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK)-designated by Turkey as a terrorist organization.

It will also likely anger Russia's ally Turkey.

A Syrian Kurdish militia that Turkey views as a terrorist group says Russian servicemen are training its forces in northern Syria. He said Russian troops already have arrived in the area.

"A disciplined, cohesive military force, well-trained in different tactics of war.is the true guarantee to defend us and to affirm our presence as a great nation that deserves dignity", says a YPG leaflet seeking recruits for the new battalions that has been circulated in the predominantly Kurdish regions of Syria, which is home to roughly two million Kurds.

"There are no plans to deploy new [Syria] military bases on the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic", it said. Turkey, with the help of allies within the Free Syrian Army, has been trying to keep the YPG from gaining terrority to create a contiguous Kurdish area along the Syria-Turkey border.
