NFL Competition Committee Reportedly to Suggest Suspension for Illegal Hits

NFL officials said that of 83 regular-season games that went to overtime over the past five campaigns 22 of them- just over one in four- went beyond 10 minutes

The NFL competition committee would bring the new rule proposal before the owners of all 32 teams, who would then vote to approve or reject the change, at next week's spring meeting.

- Shortening overtime in preseason and regular season games to 10 minutes.

It's a weird solution proposed by the league, given that quarters are 15 minutes and that the Postseason overtime rules wouldn't change at all. Recently, the league also shifted the overtime rules to make sure that each team has an opportunity to score. That breaks down to less than two percent of all regular season games, suggesting that this proposed rule change won't have a huge overall impact on the league.

According to NFL Research, 22 of of the 83 overtime games that have been played since 2012 have gone on for more than 10 minutes, which means those games would've presumably ended in a tie if the new rule had already been implemented.

Brexit process will officially start next week
She has been vocal that Britain is heading for a "bad deal" on Brexit and apparently wants out. We expect it will be a two-year process and we are confident that is what we will achieve.

Here are other expected rule change proposals, per Maske. Now the rules governing overtime periods could be in for a big shift, especially if the owners all agree that a rule change would serve to benefit teams that are forced to play in Thursday night games.

For the second time in five years, the NFL's overtime rule could be undergoing a drastic change, and if it happens, we could see more ties. This could be one of the main reasons that the proposal was presented, though it isn't guaranteed to pass once it reaches the voting stage.

Maske reported the committee is also expected to bring forth a proposal for centralized replay that will allow the National Football League office to make rulings in consultation with the referee. Defenders are now permitted to jump over their opponents on such plays so long as they do not land on another player or use their hands or arms to gain leverage.

Of course, the obvious downside to having a shorter overtime is that it would likely mean that we'd see more ties during the regular season.
