Key Witness Testifies Against Aaron Hernandez About Night of Double Murders
20 March 2017, 09:25 | Andy Ferguson
Critical witness expected to testify in Hernandez murder trial
A former friend of ex-New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez has taken the stand in Hernandez's double murder trial this week. That was all it took. He said he drove as Hernandez told him to catch up to a BMW in which Abreu and Furtado were in. Bradley lost an eye in the shooting.
Alexander Bradley was seen with Aaron Hernandez the night of the murders in July 2012.
Hernandez has pleaded not guilty.
Defense attorneys have responded that Bradley was a drug dealer, a liar, and a violent criminal whose testimony should not be trusted. The trial resumes this morning.
Hours after - unbeknownst to Bradley or Hernandez - the lives of five Cape Verdean friends living in Dorchester collided with a temperamental football star for a brief minute in time. He has appealed the conviction. They left for another bar, where Bradley said Hernandez was irritated because they believed they were followed. In fact, Haggan said, "He was never going to tell a soul" about the murders until Hernandez, 27, thought undercover cops had followed them to Miami seven months later and Bradley told him, "It's probably because of the (expletive) up stuff you did in Boston".
He said they proceeded to drink and smoke marijuana before departing for Club Cure in Boston -- one of their favorite establishments. That's when Hernandez allegedly fired five shots into the victims' vehicle. "He was just agitated, and I just knew what would happen". "He was fed up with the whole feeling-as-if-people-were-trying-him situation, so he wanted a firearm to protect himself", Bradley said earlier in his testimony.
At the club, Bradley said Abreu spilled a drink on them, and didn't act apologetically afterwards.
However, Bradley said Hernandez remained upset and would say things like people always think they can "play him" and continued to get more angry. Bradley drove up next to the BMW at a red light, he said.
As they were lined up with the vehicle, Bradley said Hernandez told him to roll down the window.
As they pulled up next to the BMW, Bradley claims Hernandez said, "Yo", to get the occupants attention and then yelled once more before he started firing five rounds into the BMW.
Hernandez and Bradley's friendly relationship fell apart during a trip to South Florida in February 2013 to attend a Super Bowl party. After that, Bradley said the gun began clicking, and Hernandez told Bradley to drive off. Two additional passengers walked away without injury.
Bradley admitted to initially riding in the passenger seat at some point in the night, but he swore that he was driving at the time of the shooting. Later on the way home Bradley said he fell asleep in the vehicle.
Bradley said he became friends with Hernandez in 2009, sold him marijuana, and frequently went out with Hernandez to clubs.
