Supreme Court offers to mediate in Ayodhya issue

Calling Ayodhya a sensitive matter, Swamy had urged the Supreme Court to constitute a bench to hear a batch of petitions challenging a 2010 Allahabad High Court order. The court asked him to consult the parties and inform it about the decision on March 31.

The court has asked Swamy to petition again on Friday next week.

The observations came after BJP leader Subramanian Swamy mentioned the matter seeking urgent hearing of the issue.

Stating that both parties must adopt a lenient approach, the CJI told BJP leader Subramanian Swamy if the concerned parties wanted any other SC sitting judge, he/she would be made available.

The Babri Masjid Action Committee rejected the Supreme Court's advice on Tuesday for an amicable settlement of the Ram temple dispute, insisting it wants the matter to be dealt with by the court. "In the past, we had sat for negotiations but due to undue interference by political parties no solution could be found, hence the Supreme Court should give a final verdict", he added. In the meantime, what we gather from reports, the SC has used these words for the Ram Temple issue-sensitive which we respect, sentimental because it is an issue of faith of millions of people and they have called for an out of court settlement.
