The official plan for Brexit is laid out in an official Government document

Due to trigger Article 50, her office has said May will be visiting Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland to hear the government's differing views on Brexit.

The move paves the way for two years of negotiations with the European Union, meaning that the country will leave the bloc in March 2019.

Up to 15 new bills could be needed to deliver Brexit, placing a "huge burden" on Parliament and Government and leaving little time for any other legislation, a think tank has warned.

In response, Donald Tusk, President of the European Council, tweeted that he would present draft Brexit guidelines to the remaining 27 EU member states withing 48 hours. Such will confirm May's October pronouncement that she would begin the process by March.

Against the backdrop of trying to keep the United Kingdom together, May has a long wish list for the European Union - the closest possible trading ties, security cooperation, regaining control over immigration and restoring sovereignty in various policy areas.

The European Commission said it stood ready to help launch the negotiations. The president of the European Commission has a warning for the other members of the union and says that the deal that the United Kingdom is going to end is going to change their mind forever about leaving the union.

Prime Minister Theresa May will file divorce papers to leave the European Union on March 29, launching two years of complex negotiations that will pit the U.K.'s need for a trade deal against the bloc's view that Britain shouldn't benefit from Brexit, Bloomberg reports.

Last week Number 10 officials confirmed the prime minister would not trigger Article 50 until the end of the month, but declined to give a specific date.

"There isn't going to be one", the spokesman said, when asked about the prospect of an early election. "@GOVUK somehow forgot to inform us".

Sterling fell half a cent against the dollar on what Brexit minister David Davis described as a move taking Britain to "the threshold of the most important negotiation for this country for a generation".
